Karen’s rating: 6.5/10

Genre: Horror.

Keep in mind that this is part of the collection Four Past Midnight. Leave a comment below if you’d like to know about the other stories.

What I liked:

  • The end made sense, which is fundamental to me since I hate finishing a book and finding out it is not connected!
  • There was a concept I had never thought about, talking about time travel in a way I found interesting. I can’t say anymore because I don’t want to make spoilers. 😉

What I didn’t like:

  • Some unnecessary romance. I’m just not a big fan of it, so I hope it doesn’t bother you.

Why do I recommend it?

First of all, the vocabulary is not complex. There are some expressions that you’ll probably have to look up, but if you’re at an intermediate level you can understand them with the context provided by the book.

Now, about the topic itself, I can say I enjoy suspense so this was amazing for me. I’m new at reading Stephen King, but the way he makes you feel like you’re in there with the passengers experiencing the whole chaos is absorbing. You can feel the tension increasing in the group when everything gets more confusing.

For that reason, if you’re a big fan of suspense -or at least you don’t mind it that much- give it a go! But please do not watch the movie. I promise you the book is nothing like that!

Hide, Craiggy-weggy. That’s what you have to do right now. You have to hide before they come for you.

The Langoliers, Four Past Midnight. Stephen King.

Short introduction (without spoilers, because I want you to read it!):

Brian, a pilot, who was recently divorced, is informed his ex-wife is dead. Given the shocking news, he travels to Boston right after that. He’s feeling troubled, but he manages to fall asleep on his way to his next destination.

It’s the noise of a little girl that wakes him up. She’s blind and needs some help to find her aunt who was missing. He tries to help her find her aunt and shortly after that they discover that most of the people on the plane had already vanished as well, even the pilot! Only a few of them were there to try to understand what was happening.

Tell me, what do you think about it? Is it something you’d like to read?

Where did I get it?

It was a gift from a friend when the quarantine began. I think that person bought it on Librería Nacional (Colombia), but right now they don’t have it. You could try ordering it from Amazon where they have several versions of the book or ask your favorite library!
